Grinch for Xmas

Caro Babbo Natale, Dear Santa Claus,

Devo ammettere che nonostante non abbia ricevuto per me i regalini da qualche centinaio di euro che avevo chiesto lo scorso anno, ho constatato con i miei occhi che il regalo al mio vecchio e odiato ex capo e' arrivato a destinazione.

Despite I didn't get the expensive presents for myself last year, I have to admit that the request for my ex boss was delivered save and sound.

Anzi ti diro' di piu', forse ti sei fatto prendere troppo la mano e hai consegnato non una scatoletta della preziosa "merda artistica" ma a destinazione, nella ex lussuosa casa del mio ex potente boss sono arrivate quintalate di prodotto. Lui certo non ha gradito ma che importa, a Natale basta il pensiero.

Moreover, I know that you gave him more than I asked you: not one precious box of "sheet of artist" but tons of this product. Certainly when he received the special present in his ex posh house, he didn't appreciate it but I don't care, because in the Xmas time what is important is the thought.

Ma ora passiamo alle mie nuove richieste, so che c'e' crisi e che per arrotondare hai tenuto sulle ginocchia ragazzini obesi e mocciolosi nei grandi e affollati centri commerciali strabordanti di giochini elettronici fuori dalla portata del tuo sacco. Detto cio', come vedrai la mia lista di questo anno sara' composta da pochi oggetti non costosi ma che spero sortiranno lo stesso effetto dello scorso natale.

Now it is the time for my request. I am aware about the current financial downturn and I know you get a second job in lots of malls where you let fat and snotty nosed kids to sit on your laps. This was my preamble to assure you that in my list there are no expensive stuff but I hope that what I'm going to ask you will have the same outcome of last year.

Green could suit perfectly my dear friend C. She is so into fashion and with this dress she could have an outfit really original, and maybe she will say it is something made exclusive for her.

Questo e' un regalo molto significativo, e voglio che lo porti nella casa di G, infondo credo che si ritrovera' molto nell'animale che adorna il simpatico anello? oppure no ma insomma cosa importa....

Fashion last minute

Mi ha sempre divertito osservare chi popola il regno dell'effimero occasionale. Sto parlando di uomini che indossano giacca e cravatta e di donne che vestono abiti sgargianti e all'ultima moda, solo ed esclusivamente per le grandi occasioni. Come dire: sono cattolico, vado in chiesa la domenica e mi pento dei mie peccati solo un giorno a settimana, gli altri giorni sono ateo. L'apparire e' un dovere irrinunciabile per i fashion addicted dell'ultima ora. Sono loro che a tutte le feste comandate e in certi selezionatissimi eventi non si fanno vedere se non hanno sulla pelle il vestito firmato, magari poi e' falso, ma cosa conta nessuno guarda l'etichetta. Se non fosse ormai fuori dai circuiti della moda, indosserebbero la cara e vecchia pelliccia tanto in voga negli anni 80, che dava il messaggio di essere elegant chic, o posizionerebbero l'orologio sul polsino. Peccato che certi status symbol sono stati abbattuti. L'apparente vuole brillare, ma non brilla di luce propria, prende in prestito ori e orpelli riconosciuti come brillanti da una societa' che oggi piu' di ieri si fonda sull'abito e dimentica il monaco. L'essenza si perde in dettagli inutili, collezionati in maniera maniacale che, per i devoti del fashion last minutes rappresntano l'eredita' sacra. Per gli apparenti sprovvisti di finanze adeguate ai bisogni di sfoggio occasionale, il loro vezzo par time diventa una tortura idiosincratica a volte intollerabile: si fa a gara per mostrare gli eccessi, ma gli eccessi costano e per averli e sfoggiarli c'e' chi mangia tutti i giorni insalata, illudendosi di poter avere qualcosa che lo connoti per cio' che non e' e forse non sara' mai. Gli apparenti tout court in genere mi fanno sorridere, dietro la loro immagine costruita si nasconde una aridita' mentale che sfiora la goffaggine, ma tra il loro culto giornaliero e gli "apparenti della domenica", lasciatemi dire che la seconda categoria e' quella piu' esilerante. La classe non si compra ne si baratta con oggetti inutili. Per tutto il resto ci sono gli outlet.

People obsessed for the ephemeral word has always amused me. I am talking about men who put on suit with tie and women who wear flashy and garish dresses only and exclusively for big events. This could be said as: I go to the mass every Sunday, I repent for my sins but the other days of the week I am atheist. Appearing is a must for last minutes fashion addicted. All mundane events and festivity occasions are chances to showing up themselves with fashionable dress, perhaps outfit is not original one but who cares, nobody knows. If fur was still in the fashion market, women would have a bunch of foxes on their shoulders,and men would put watch in their wrist, just to prove their fashion style. What a shame for them that all this status symbol are not "alive" anymore. Occasional fashion addicted wants to shine but they bask in appearance reflected glory, they borrow luxury frills recognized by society as symbols of elegance in order to be what they aren't now and won't be in the future. Essence is lost in useless details collected painstakingly by loyal supporters of fashion last minutes who consider all the knick-knacks as a treasure. For whom has financial difficulties to satisfy this randomly excessive ostentation is a real idiosyncratic torture that leads to a vain attempt to demonstrate to neighbours how cool they can be. Part time fashion obsession cost sacrifices, and who is not so rich to get the right look, is obliged to eat salad every day in order to achieve a posh outfit only for one party. Every Day Fashion addicted make me smile, because, most of the time, beyond their perfect images there's a scarcity of intellectual insight that is, in fact almost awkwardness. Between cult of appearing in every day existence and fashion only for Sunday, the last category is the most comic one. You can not buy elegance, for everything else you can go to the near outlet.

La notizia e' femminile - Far from the sex equality discrimination is the queen

Non e' solo questione di numeri, e' uno sbilanciamento che sottolinea come, nonostante gli sbandieramenti di piccole conquiste, siamo ancora lontani dal raggiungimento della meta. Sono 15 anni che il Global Media Monitor Project (GMMP), una ricerca sulla percentuale di giornaliste di inchiesta nel mondo, ci da gli stessi risultati: una esigua minoranza di donne si occupa delle hard news, ossia notizie di politica ed economia. Questi campi sono quasi completamente dominio dei giornalisti, le colleghe si occupano maggiormente di arte, cultura, attualita' e sport (escluso il cacio ovviamente). Questi sono i dati emersi dal GMMP, un quadro scevro da ogni possibile altra interpretazione se non il fatto acclamato che sottolinea una forte discriminazione di genere ponendo in evidenza come le news e le opinioni piu' "significative", in termini soprattutto di ascolto, sono quasi a completo appannaggio dei giornalisti, uomini.

Lasciatemi esprimere un giudizio sincero verso i colleghi uomini: alcuni di loro sembrano persone brillanti finche' non aprono bocca e parlano. Poche hanno l' opportunita' di trattare le notizie di politica ed economia, ma d'altro canto le giornaliste che si occupano di attualita' fanno emergere realta' rilevanti che dovrebbero essere trattate nei discorsi dei politici e degli economisti. Mi riferisco alle professioniste dei media che intervistano i terremotati, entrano nelle fabbriche dando voce agli scioperanti, e documentano la vita di chi tutti i giorni lotta contro un quotidiano faticoso. Bisognerebbe valorizzare di piu' questi report e soprattutto far si che le giornaliste esperte in politica ed economia abbiano gli stessi spazi dei colleghi. Infondo molte possiedono talento, grinta ed attributi, sfortunatamente solo metaforici.

Qui non si tratta solamente di pari opportunita', qui si sta parlando di dare lustro al mestiere. Guardando alla grammatica italiana, qualcuno obietterà: il mestiere e' nome comune di cosa maschile, io rispondo si e' vero ma la notizia e' un nome comune di cosa femminile. Sfortunatamente anche la discriminazione e è donna ed e' la regina di cio' che chiamiamo moderna societa'.

It's not only an imbalance situation, despite some achievements were obtained by women, it is a matter of fact: sex equality is still far from being reality. For 15 year the Global Media Monitoring Project ( GMMP), an academic organisation that conduct every a yearly research, has underlined the usual short percentage of women journalists involved in the field of investigative journalism. According to the research only a very few women have the opportunity to write or talk about hard news, or rather news regarding political and economical issues: the ones able to get a strong engagement from audience. GMMP shows how men journalists "dominate" those sectors, while the vast majority of women journalists cover soft news, such as entertainment, art, cultural, current affair and sport event (not football of course, football is still a men topic). This is the outcome highlighted from the research that monitored this matter around the world. There is only one explanation which can be summed up what I reported to you with one single world: gender discrimination. As a journalist, and woman, let me say something regards this matter: some of my men colleagues seem bright people until they open their mouths to speak up. If it is true that a narrow minority can investigate hard news, a substantial part of women journalists draw the attention of audience to significant aspects of what happen around us. They works on important aspect of current affair like: interviewing earthquake victims, striking people in factories and reporting every day life of people who are struggling to survive in the society. I believe that the value of their work should be increase and politic and economic field needs to take into serious consideration this kind of news. Furthermore, let destroy this stupid discrimination and, above all, let women have the same right of men to investigate hard news. In the rear, some women are much more capable to do that, they get talent and punch attitude, unfortunately they do not have the men physical "attributes" which are indispensable for getting the status of hard news journalist, at least in a very large part of the world and of course in Italy. Beyond the sex equality, my straight point is: with more talent women an less incapable men in the field of investigative journalism, the quality of the job can be much more improve. Looking at the Italian grammar, some italian could object: job is masculine, I replay: yes but news is feminine. Unfortunately, according to italian vocabulary, discrimination is also feminine, and it is the queen of what we call the modern society.
