Made in Italy

Every jobs dignifies men, but if there are troubles to face, women take action. There were 60 workers (women) for Omsa-golden Point who have occupied the roof of their factory, in Italy, for 59 days, challenging the awful weather of January. Up to the roof they asked WHY... why a well known Italian factory that had a extraordinary profit, despite the current financial crisis, wants to get them fire? Why? The reason is simply, Osma-goden point's managers want to move their business in Serbia, where workers ask for less wages and they probably don't pretend any extra money for working overtime. Now those women were living with 700 Euro per month, thanks to redundancy fund, but if their factory will move, as it appears, they are going to be unemployed. Their stories seemed to be forgotten by whom have a job and don't have financial problems, but thanks to Rai per una notte, a talk show against censorship in italy, their problem came to the light. I want to lunch an initiative and ask to you to NOT BUY any Omsa or Golden Point products. Managers have not scruples of conscience but if all of us will carry on this protest, maybe Omsa- Golden Point will remain in Italy and so those 6o workers and their families could have a future without asking food and clothes to charities.

Voglia di urlare - I want to shout

"We must defend life. Above all, we must fight abortion's unbearable crime. This defence is one of the most valuable and not negotiable principles in which catholic must vote in the next regional election" bishop Bagnasco said few days ago. The well known Vatican 's spokesman highlights how in the State of the Pope being pro life is the most important part in order to be a good catholic. Life is a miracle, children are our future, nobody dare to kill a foetus, even contraceptive pills are forbidden, nothing can interfere with God's plan. It seems far away the storm provoked by the spread of an embarrassing news reporting about 350 children abused when they were part of little sparrow's choir, directed by the bishop Ratzinger, the Pope's brother, but it was just few weeks ago. At the time Bagnasco said: "Pedophile is a course. It is everywhere" (not only inside our churches). A statement useless and discouraging. Roman church is absolutely able to fight for its ideas. If you think about every antiabortion campaigns, till forbidding even condoms as a contraceptive and so against life. We wonder now: why Vatican defends so hard foetus and "forgets" to put any emphasis of children raped and abused when they went in a church environment, as a choir? Maybe Vatican city's politic follows the Latin motto: IN DUBIS ABSTINE, that is “In case of doubt, abstain".

Italians in London

You recognise italians in London if:

1 On the escalator they are to the left side, so if you are in hurry up it's impossible to go beyond.
2 If you are queuing in a very long line, they go to the beginning with a cheeky attitude saying :" I was here hours ago, I went just for a second to drink my coffee. In that way, they pretend to escape the queue.
3 They drink and eat breakfast on the bar's counter.
4 They don't match black suit with fuchsia and bordeaux stock.... Ever!
5 They don t vomit in every street corners when they are drunk. At least, some of they sing " Oh Sole mio.... is in Italy!" .... " Oh my sun is in Italy....."
6 Italian girls usually don't wear short skirt, t-shirt with deep V neck and summer sandal in the winter time, especially when thermometer signs - 10.
7 On the bus or into the tube, it's rare that they stand up in order to leave their seat for you. Moreover, they are not so gents when a lady needs to get off... on the contrary English boy almost every time say : "After you sweetheart".
8 When they sip an espresso made in a decent way, they go into ecstasies over it.
9 They usually are much more rude than English. It's true English are more polite... but they are kind of Polite and "fake".... on the other side Italian are impolite but more sincere than British one.
10 Finally, you can recognise Italians looking at the way they walk: half macho and half riders.

My sefportrait

English version

I always survive in your mind, as element of perfection or disorder. I represent the further side of any simplistic version, and rhetorical speech. I build every day a new skin, I wear silk and organza and dancing in your mind I become a tiny iron wire that you are incapable to loosen. My personality push you to love or hate me but you can not be indifferent to my sight. All you know about me is that without me and my words you will be ash. Do not be another one, I dislike who build castle made by sand without be aware that wind, sooner or later, will destroy it. I am all about you can not understand, the essence you can not catch in your hand, the sureness that is going to be lost along time. I hope you know that underestimate me, it will be a huge mistake.

It needs courage to make a goodness survive.

Presidente, si contenga - Mister Prime Minister please shut up

English Version

There are stories that grow up without seeing the light, remaining choked in the dark side of a corner. Window need to be reassuring: nobody is allowed to make it dirty, and if it's raining there will be always someone to clean it up, hiding clouds.

These stories are "rotten" under a veil of indifference. They are silent and unbecoming, so both newspapers and television don't want to speak about them. Elvira Dones, a journalist, writer, and documentary producer, born and grew up in Albania and emigrated in the USA, after Berlin wall was broke, told us about these forgotten stories. Elvira told about two beautiful albanian girls: Stella and Brunildha. Stella was kidnapped and raped many times from more than one men in order to push her to become a prostitute. They also tattooed in her stomach a word: whore, just to remind her, every day, what she has became. Brunildha didn't want to be a prostitute and they killed her. Dones reported their stories with "poison in her stomach". She wrote these sad lives in a letter addressed to Italian prime Minster that, thinking he was funny, said in Tirana: "For who bring to Italy pretty girls we will make an exception". My dear English readers, you need to be aware that almost every day there are bots from Albania full of girls like Stella and Brunildha, and usually men that bring them are cruel pimps. If they would be catch by police, these horrible men went to jail for many years. Elvira couldn't "swallow" Italian Prime minster's joke so she replayed reminding him that the "plague" of women sold as sexual object is not a matter of joke. Obviously not a journal reported Elvira's letter. Only Corrado Giustiniani's blog did this. In Italy there is a motto: silence is like gold, it seems it can make people calm but on the other side they are blind about Italian MP.

Mister prime minister please shut up, that kind of joke doesn't make anyone laugh, not even a clown.

Cenerentola veste Prada - Cinderella wears Prada

English Version

All fables end with a happy ending, it coudn't be different. Putting a different ending would lose its appeal, it would not slip among the pink memories and it would hinder it in the meander of the raw reality that every mother would want to hide to the eyes of her own child. Unfortunately reality exists, and it will come up sooner or later, so Cinderella's fairy tale began like a candid rosebud and ended as brush of torn.

What happened after, finally, Cinderella and the Charming Prince got married? I have investigated and discovered something that I am going to reveal only for you.

This was the beginnig of the end. Cinderella lived in a big posh house full of crystals, like her renowned shoes, and courtains made in a valuable silk. In that place nothing reflected her life or personality and, above all, she was bored. After many days, spending in front of the fireplace which she always cleans properly, she decided to go outside and see the real world. She stopped close to an off license and her sight was captured by fashion magazines. After a while she bought Glamour, Vogue and Woman today. Looking back into the pile of magazines she spotted "Rumores of the week", where in the cover page there were her lovely Charming Prince hugging and kissing a provocative blond girl. With tears in her eyes she read the article and she came back home with a strong determination to regain her husband.

At home, she read first Vogue, then Glamour and finally Woman Today, and following the instructions from the magazines she fixed as soon as possible an appointment with beautician. With her new status of princess and money she got it in the morning, because as Vogue suggests wax must be done in the morning, only like this it will be effective. After the hot wax was on her skin, she started to howl like a wolf, and coursed in ancient aramaic, the only foreign language that she learnt by her old and drunk tutor. After she did manicure and pedicure and she thought that be a woman is hard... very hard. Finally, she went to a famous hairdresser and there she got a new fashion cut and highlighters. Her natural face was full of expensive make up. Cinderella was sure that in that way the Charming Prince would love her again. It wasn't like that, on the other side, her spouse was always rude and impolite, actually he turned to be Uncharming Prince. Every time he came back home he usually screamed at her: "Cinderella where are you? gimme my slippers!" and even worse when he was drunk he often said " Hey, you whatever is your name, gimme my slipper and my cognac!".

More and more desolate Cinderella called a famous celebrity manager who bought for her dresses by Prada, jewels by Breil and shoes by Loboutin. He suggested her to changing her name into Cindy, much more modern and cool than Cinderella. Her new friends were Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, and she always attended the most fashion parties around the world. But, despite this glamour life she was unhappy.

After cry a lot, she thought that only her fairy could sort out her problem. The dearest old lady visited her after one year, she said that she couldn't not miss anonymous alcoholic sessions. Cinderella listened all fairy's mistaken life: 5 divorces and also menopause's pain that at the age of 200 were arrived punctual like disgraces. When her old friend finished, Cinderella started telling what was going on with her life. She told about her glitter world that made her so sad and depress. After listening carefully, the fairy said: "My dear it was not a case that I decided to break your spell at midnight, everything before midnight should be perfect. It should be the happiest memory of your life, something you could remember as a perfect moment. Everybody know that nothing last for ever! But you... you were so stupid and you lost your shoes, so now your life is like shit!". Cinderella implored the fairy to help her once again, and after a while the fairy told: " All right, all right. Listen: you need to split up with your Uncharming Prince, you must divorce and ask him half of his realm and live your life. Outside is full of handsome, clever and rich men. You must pay attention to pick up the right one".

Cinderella followed her advise, and after she felt in love with a famous football player. Once again, the fairy tale begin like a candid rosebud but it is unknown if will end it up as a brush of torn. One thing is certain: Cinderella doesn't clean the fireplace anymore, she wears Prada shoes every time and she has learnt a lot from her experience.

Erica B: Giovane Carina ed incazzata - Erica B: Young, pretty and pissed off

Risultati:

English Translation

This afternoon, at work, I was looking for a job - a job that wouldn't make me nored to tears every day. In an indeal world i'd find a job in the ehumanitarian field, in an international organisation, like the UN or the Red Cross. I went on the website of a very well-known international organisation and I saw a job offer for something i could potentially like a lot: a 1 year contract spending th efirst 6 months
on training courses on emercency response in developing countries and
the following 6 in a country you have been assigned to apply what you've learnt. This experience should give you enough credentials to get a job in a non governmental organisation. Slight problem: the first 6 months here in london are paid the cost of transport to and from work (I cycle, so approximately £0) and the cost of lunch during working days (sandwich, approximately £2.50): they'll go bankrupt! after some quick calculations (rent + bills if I move to a shack £400 plus/month, I could go and eat at a soup kitchen but let's say at leastanother £50 per week for food, and let's assume I don't need anything else - I won't ever go out, or shower or clean my house, as in 6 months without salary it's likely that my soap supplies will run out), I was saying after some quick calculations: i can't afford it.
Results:
1) I get really pissed off,
2) I email to Clelia asking her to write something about teh absurdity of the exploitation of workers by humanitarian organisations, and
3) Clelia offers me the opportunity to write an article about this on her blog and i hppily accept.

Brief story of my life (which i will use to justify the pissed off-ness I mentioned above, for not being able to find a paid job in international development) : 25 year old italian, I've been in London just over 2 years but havent lived in italy since i was about 18. I have a Masters in International Development from The London School of Economics and then I spent one year in peru, managing education, nutrition and health projects. I came back to london in october 2008 - in the midst of the financial crisis - to look for a job in an international organisation. It's a very competitive fiels, btu i was hoping that my masters, field experience (Peru plus experiences in Central America and Tanzania during university) and speaking 4 languages would help. Instead after a couple months i found a job as a researcehr with a government agency. a "great" job: permanent contract, relatively high profile, well paid: excellent compared to what i could find in italy. But it's not for me and i would like to go back to a social work, possibly international.
began looking for a job again and, in spite of the financial crisis and the high cost of living in london, there is still a fierce competition for unpaid internships with large and small organisations alike. aside from the paradox of humanitarian organisations hiring unpaid staff, i cant comprehend the number of recent graduates who can afford to accept these work contracts, as the majority of people don't live with their families and have to pay rent. NGOs ask for a minimum commitment of 3 days/week for 3 monts and offer to pay for transport and lunch. During my masters i worked 1 day/week for a small organisation, with a contract of this kind, but now i cant afford it. So should i give up on doing what i am interested in, what I am passionate about and what i studied because I can't afford to get unpaid experience I need to have access to the paid job market? and do these organisations ever wonder if their economic selection doesn't leave out some qualified and competent people
